Make caramel apples at home

It’s fall, which means leaves on the ground, a cool breeze, the town fairs and all the snacks that come with it. If you’re like many people, not only do you enjoy the town fair but you also enjoy one of the staple foods – caramel apples! Crunchy and sweet, yet gooey at the same time, they certainly are delicious – but costly as well. So don’t wait for the fair, try this simple recipe and make them at home anytime for a fraction of the price.  Not only will you be able to save money, but you will have a recipe to make with your family and pass down for generations.

Prep Time: 8 to 10 minutes

Cooking Time: 2 minutes

Ready Time: About 25

6 apples (get your favorites, Granny Smith are the best to get the sweet and sour sensation, however if you love a good McIntosh go for it!)
6 craft Sticks
14 Ounces of caramel pieces, unwrapped. (I find Kraft brand products work wonderfully)
2 tablespoons of milk
1 baking sheet, buttered
Chocolate candies, crushed nuts, or sprinkles (optional), in a container which you can easily fit the apple into to roll.

Carefully remove the stem from each of your apples. Press a craft stick into the top of your apple.

Place all unwrapped caramels and milk in a microwave safe container. Microwave for two minutes stirring once. Allow mixture to cool for a short time.

Roll each of your apples in the caramel sauce until they are coated well. Place onto your prepared sheet and allow to set. *If you would like to have candied caramel apples see the optional step below.

Place your baking sheet in the refrigerator for 15 minutes to allow the caramel to set.

Enjoy!  You’ve now created a treat your whole family can enjoy. Try a few spins of your own with your candy choices to celebrate different holidays. There are black and orange sprinkles that you can use at Halloween, find some turkey shapes for Thanksgiving and so on.

Optional step: If you would like to have candied caramel apples, immediately after you roll your apple in the caramel mixture, roll your apple in your prepared candy or nuts. Then place your apples on the prepared baking sheet.
